Sharjah World Music Festival kicks off

The first Sharjah World Music Festival kicks off on Wednesday, January 15, at the Al Qasba area of Sharja (UAE) in collaboration with Furat Qaddouri Music Center.

Between the 15th and 18th of January, the Festival will feature award-winning musicians from several Arab and foreign countries, notably the Iraqi musician and composer Naseer Shamma who will give the first concert.

The four-day festival will include live performances by musicians and composers from Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Colombia, Japan, France and Pakistan. They who will play Oud, zither (Qanoun), Flamenco, Sitar and Jazz on two outdoor stages, as well as the main show at Masrah Al Qasba-Theatre.

Strings of every kind at Sharjah

The programme is full of strings of every kind. In addition to Shamma, the list of musicians includes, Sitar maestro Ashraf Sharif Khan, all-round performer Jahida Wehbe, Qanoun player Furat Qaddori, Flamenco guitarist Vicente Allende, Jordanian singer Macadi Nahhas, singer and player Alex El Cantante, singer Oxana Uncu, Syrian singer Amir Adam, violinist and pianist Haruka Horiiand, gypsy swing and acoustic jazz performer Alexandre Valls, as well as the European Fusion Band.
